  • Announcement of Special General Meeting

Members and residents are invited to a Special General Meeting of the Inglewood Community League at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 23. The meeting takes place at the community league hall at 12525 116 Ave NW. The doors will be opened at 12:30.

    Why we’re calling this meeting

Last month, we shared the difficult news of our significant financial losses. Since then, the board has been working behind the scenes with a lawyer, a forensic auditor, and the police. Now it’s time to talk with you directly.

    What we’ll cover

    • A clear account of the loss and how it was discovered
    • The steps the board has taken since the discovery
    • Where things stand with the civil lawsuit and the police investigation

    Protocol

    1. The meeting is open to all Inglewood residents but only league members can speak, ask questions and vote.  Non-members are observers only. (Get your membership here)
    2. You will be asked to sign in at the door, with your name, email, address, and phone number. If you are member, bring your membership card or have your identification ready.
    3. Speakers must state their name before they speak. There is a time limit of 3 minutes for each league member.  No one can speak again until everyone else has had an opportunity to ask their question.
    4. Recordings will not be permitted.

It’s in everyone’s interest to keep an orderly meeting. Let’s remember we are all neighbours here. Please keep all comments and questions neighbourly.

  • A Message from the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues

A Message from the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues

The Inglewood Community League recently identified a series of significant financial losses, occurring over the past 18 months. Upon discovery, the Board took immediate action to protect the interests of the community and its members.

    Actions Taken

To ensure a thorough and professional investigation, the Board has:

    • Engaged a forensic auditor to determine the full scope of the losses.
    • Filed a formal report with the Edmonton Police Service.
    • Retained legal counsel to attempt to recoup the losses
    • Have had board members step up to fill vacant leadership roles

    Commitment to the Future

Despite being in a precarious financial position, the Board is actively managing operations to ensure the League remains a vital resource for Inglewood. Stringent new financial controls and enhanced oversight measures have already been implemented to secure the League’s future assets.

The Inglewood Community League and EFCL are committed to full transparency. Once the forensic audit is finalized and facts are confirmed, a detailed update will be shared with all members and stakeholders. We thank the community for its ongoing support and patience during this time.

An Important Message from the Inglewood Community League Board of Directors

The Community League board of directors is saddened to announce that the League has suffered a number of financial losses over the last year and a half. This has left the League in a precarious financial position. We have hired a forensic auditor to identify the amount and sources of the loss and have reported the loss to the Edmonton Police Service.  We also have retained legal counsel and are taking steps to recoup the funds. The board is taking advice from the EFCL and has put a number of stringent financial controls in place. Once the forensic audit is complete and we have a clearer understanding of the situation, we will provide members with a comprehensive and transparent accounting of all findings. Members of the volunteer board have been left truly shaken by these events and we appreciate your ongoing support and patience.

At the same time we have lost a couple of long time board members. Luckily, we have many talented people on the board and folks have stepped up. Joelene (Joe) Mackey is our new president, appointed by the Board in an interim capacity until our next Annual General Meeting in the fall. Also stepping up in acting positions are JoAnne Burek, Treasurer and Morgan Smith, Vice President. Thanks, Joe, JoAnne and Morgan!

Updates on the situation will be provided as the situation develops. We will also be hosting a meeting, open to league members, as soon as possible to communicate details as we are able.

Please keep yourselves up to date by checking the Friends of Inglewood Facebook page for the date of this meeting and find ongoing updates in our monthly newsletter.
